The “Art” and I

By the time my husband and I had raised our six children, I was raring and ready to make art as often as I wanted! Then, life entered, and that didn’t turn out to the be the reality. With a new bachelors degree in Fine Arts under my belt, I got a job. I’ve held a lot of jobs, but holding a job is different that living your best life, believe me. Spoiled 1st world problems? Likely, but 40 hours a week in the same building, doing the same thing is hard for a free spirit. And at the age of 62, I recognize that I’m one of those.

Last November, 11 years after I got my art degree, I resigned from my very nice job. My mom’s needs are increasing, and helping her with life while working 40 hours a week was rough. Add family or studio time to that and you have a mess; at least I did. Something had to give, and that something was me. Hooray! Now I have regular studio time, get to do more things with family and can be around every day for Mom. I’ve always been an “artist,” but now I have more time to practice as one.

As an artist, my work reflects my view of the world. Likely my view differs from yours, but if it connects with you, I’m satisfied. Art is about connection. Communication is an important part of our lives, and connection is the highest form (says me) of communication. I hope you can find something here to connect to, and that my work communicates something to you. If it does, please drop a comment, look around at what I have for sale or share my work and ideas with others. And come back often! I’ll try to make it worth your time.

The photo above was taken by my husband at Bisti Badlands in New Mexico recently. Amazing place!
